4 ELEMENTS

Fire, water, earth, air … Jens Look from New York has taken the four elements as his theme in a photo gallery of the latest fashion wear. We were inspired by his idea and went on a hunt for suitable items. We soon found what we were looking for in various boutiques around the Island. We then allocated them to locations according to how well the outfits, fabrics, colours and overall look best represented each of the four elements.Luminous orange is trending this summer. In combination with bright red and pink, it conveys the heat and the sparks that are given off by fire. Yves Saint Laurent loved this very colour combination and also liked to supplement it with a rich purple. In this case, we opted for the motif of a red swimming costume and pepped up the look with gaudy make-up accents.For the second motif, we went for a powerful red. The blazing red sunset in the background and the illuminated pool at the Atzaró put the models in the right light.

By contrast, water is comprised of the full range of fresh sea colours, from green through to turquoise – a popular choice this summer. Our styling tip is that this comes across even better in combination with metallic jewellery which simulates the play of light on the water surface. We selected a green bikini for the water shots, enhanced by a neck-and-belly chain.The third element – sky and air – embodies lightness. That is why, in our selection of materials, we specifically opted for flowing and airy fabrics such as silk which we allowed to waft in the gentle breezes of Portinatx. The colours that lend themselves to this element are light and bright pastels in combination with white and shades of nude.
The atmospheric cave at Cala Conta provided us with the full colour range of ‘earth’. We thought this was nicely complemented by a silk caftan with a print that is reminiscent of small pebbles.
