What is Diamond Clarity?

Clarity refers to the presence of inclusions and blemishes within a diamond. Inclusions are tiny internal imperfections that occur naturally during the diamond’s formation deep within the Earth. Blemishes are surface imperfections. While these can be too small to see with the naked eye, they do affect a diamond’s overall appearance and value.

To assess clarity, gemologists use a 10x magnification loupe to closely examine the diamond. For even finer details, they may use a microscope to detect any internal flaws that may not be visible at first glance. These tools help determine the grade of clarity, based on the size, location, and visibility of any inclusions.
